During a war-torn childhood, Holocaust survivor Avraham Perlmutter formed an unshakable bond with the Beijers family that hid him in the Netherlands. This story comes vividly to life in a moving documentary.

Join Avraham’s daughter Keren Perlmutter, who directed the film, and descendants of the Beijers family for a conversation on the lasting effects of human kindness even in the darkest of hours.

Based on Avraham Perlmutter’s #1bestselling autobiography, Determined is a poignant story of a young man’s determination to survive in the face of evil. Keren Perlmutter, Ph.D., is an award-winning filmmaker, and the editor of her father’s autobiography. She continues to share Avraham’s life story by speaking at museums and schools, and is actively dedicated to Holocaust survivor support and other nonprofit organizations.

A visit to The Zekelman Holocaust Center will teach you about the Holocaust and inspire you to create a better future. We host Survivor Talk Sundays each week at 12:00 PM. Explore exhibits that include a WWII-era boxcar used by the Nazis to transport Jews and other “undesirables” to concentration camps, and the Viola and Garry Kappy Anne Frank Tree Exhibit and Garden featuring a chestnut tree grown from a sapling gifted to us from the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Learn about the importance of standing up against prejudice, discrimination, and hate from the examples of those who risked their lives to save others during the Holocaust.
